We are pleased to announce that following our triennial ISO audit, we have been re-certified to ISO9001 (2008), ISO14001 and OHSAS18001 until 2014. We had an auditor visit us twice during this process to carry out a full inspection of our quality management, Health and safety and Environmental systems. We managed to get through without any non-conformances or recommendations for improvements and they were very impressed with the documentation and plans for maintaing the standards we hold. We are very proud that we are able to work to 3 ISO standards in developing the company where as other companies can sometimes struggle with 1.Two more Co-Ops are underway at the moment for us, with our local store, Co-Op Aintree and the Co-Op in Ledbury, in the West Midlands both at the early stages. As usual the initial works are centred around the exterior, whilst the early shopfit is underway. After a week or two we will be inside the stores completing all of the decorations. Well done to the food retail team who are doing a fantastic job of these projects and securing more and more work for us for the future! We have just been approached from a major construction company who have asked for us to be involved in frameworks for re-decorating various banks around the country, more on this to follow..............
April is typically one of the quietest months for us at DDS however, this month there is alot happening. Our strong relationship with the Yorkshire Building Society continues to grow, as we have been asked to carry out the decoration to their branch in Blackpool. The work centres around re-decoration of the windows front and back and shopfront. There is also a small amount of work inside the branch, where they have had water damage to the Branch managers office wall. As normal, most internal works at YBS involve Dixon Turner wide width wallcovering, so we will be stripping the current paper, treating the walls and re-papering to their own branch spec. Due to the heavy foot flow of pedestrians past the store, we are going to be carrying out the external works on a boom lift and starting very early in the morning to avoid disruption and inconvenience to local workers and shoppers. With the team we have on site, we should be able to complete the whole job in under a week. The next in the long line of Co-Op rebrands is underway. Somerfield, Wallasey is now in the process of being changed to the Co-Op identity. Our experienced food retail team have been working on the outside of the store, decorating the bollards, trolley bays, fencing, lamposts and shutters, whilst the shopfit is at the early stages. Once all of the first fix is completed, we will be moving inside the store to decorate the shopfloor, back of house areas and offices. All in all we will have 4 weeks to complete so once again, full steam ahead folks! The insurance work team is very busy this month. There seems to be alot of water damage and fire damage claims underway at the moment. Our Insurance work for this month involves 2 shops, an educational unit (1 of 2) and approximatey 25 domestic claims. Due to demand we have had also to increase our plastering team, who for the next few months will be all over the northwest repairing and preparing surfaces for us to decorate to.
March, historically is a busy month for us at DDS. This year is no exception! We are facing the busiest time in Insurance contracting for around 2 years. The jobs for March will see us active around pretty much the whole of the country and by the looks of job orders coming in to the office, it may last some time yet before it dies down.We are due to finish the the Waitrose in Menai Bridge by the middle of this month. Our team have been away now for 3 weeks and have made a huge effort in providing a top job for the contractor. We have been informed that we are to receive the highest accolade by the main contractor for impeccable site behaviour and quality of workmanship during these works. We always aim for excellence at DDS, so this is very much welcome news, with great potential for future business opportunities. This month sees us providing the full re-decoration of a large tax office in Merseyside for HMRC. We were specifically selected for this job on recommendation and following site visits and pre-start meetings we were given the go-ahead to proceed. the building is highly populated with staff, so it has been arranged for works in stages, in order to shift around staff with little effect to their daily workload.Specification is very basic, but the quality of workmanship has to be extremely high. We are confident that the client will be very pleased in 12 weeks when we hand over our finished job.The latest of our run of Co-op/Somerfield jobs is underway. We are carrying out a large amount of external works and internal works to what was a Somerfield, but is now a Co-op, in Rainhill, Merseyside. The external works are being carried out on a cherry picker due to the height of the rendered part of the building. Once the outside is complete, we will be shifting to nights to carry out the decoration to the shopfloor, back of house and customer welfare areas.

Things have started a little slow this month on the commercial work front, but in the office it has been extremely busy with a number of tenders and work requests piling in.The majority of the work this month is insurance based, with a lot of claims being handled due to the bad weather conditions. We have been approached to carry out the decoration to a local revenue and customs office, which we are very excited about. The job is due to begin at the beginning of march and will run for approximately 13 weeks. Our work is mainly emulsioning, with a small amount of varnish work to the timber. Our dedicated Office and banking decorating team will be working on this and should prove to be a very good job for us.
The big house fire insurance job is continuing this month. All of the wiring and installations have been completed and the plasterers have been busy skimming the walls. The policy holder has given us a very detailed colour and wallpaper scheme which has some unusual features so the lads at the job are quite interested to see the finished job. This is due to complete at the beginning of March so a fair bit of work do do.Following a visit to Menai Bridge, Anglesey. We have accepted the decoration package on the first ever Waitrose in North Wales. The store is currently a CO-OP but has been aquired by Waitrose so is being totally re-fitted.Although the contract starts at the end of this month, all of the initial works involve heavy lifting machinery, excavators and huge forklifts. Once the first fix is out the way we will be starting our works with the external of the building being completely re painted. We will have 4 of our commercial retail team working on this job from start to finish and should take around 3 weeks to complete. We have just completed a Health & Safety course for one of our customers, which was specifically for Petrol forecourts and obviously the risks for working in this environment. This has been an eye opening exercise for us and has certainly given us a insight into the dangers invloved with high flammables, such as petrol and gas.Look out for us at a petrol station near you!!Habitat have asked us back to carry out some minor works to the store which has been caused by the moving of fittings, boxes etc and the final shopfit. We will have 3 tradesmen in the store for 2 nights and hopefully should be able to do all that is asked of us in that time.
We have agreed at short notice to carry out the decoration to the back of house areas of 9 Co-Ops throughout the Northwest. The main contractor has asked if we are able to complete these before christmas, which we have agreed to, so we will be really busy throughout this month with a number of sub-contractors coming on board to help us out with the contract. Our first Job centre plus is due to kick off in December. We have been promised a number of these job centres in the coming months so absolute top quality is a must. The standard finish for these premises are the highest there is, with great attention to every detail throughout. Our senior tradesmen will be working on this project for us and I am sure they will be delivering a very impressive job to keep our customer happy. One of our biggest insuance jobs for sometime is continuing this month. The claim is a house fire and the house is be gutted completely and re-instated as new. The strip out is underway and we are working through the property, stripping all of the wallpaper from the walls. This is essential so as the builder can see beyond the coverings and re-survey the property for damp and substrate damage. Once the stripping is done, we will be pulling off from the job until the electrics, plumbing, joinery and plastering has been completed.

November sees us starting our second Macdonalds restaurant, in Bangor, Wales. The projects are usually very tight on the schedule, with a number of trades operating at the same time in limited space. We rose to the challenge at the last restaurant and have been asked again to provide our decorating services to this project.Following successful completion of the external works on the YBS, Bradford, we are due to start the decoration of the internal areas to include the stairways, communal entrance and the office floor lobby's. All the woodwork is to be clear varnished and the walls are to be stripped of the current paper and re-papered with a fabric backed paper from Dixon Turner. As always with banking and office based jobs, the specification is for a top finish and we will be ensuring that this happens. The finals push on Habitat, Liverpool 1 is underway. The hold ups at the beginnning of the job from other trades has meant that our project timescales have reduced, so we have committed a number of additional members of staff to see that we meet the hand over deadline. This will also mean the need for out of hours work may be required so arrangements for that are in place should this be the case. So far the work we have produced is of the highest quality and extra effort will be applied to the remainder of the contract to keep the standard up all the way until the end.
Following the erection of the large scaffolding system and associated safety hand over, works have commenced onthe Yorkshire Building Society in Bradford. All 104 windows are being prepared for decoration with a large amount of old rotten timber fillets being removed for renewal. The new bird repellent system to be installed is under review at the moment, this may require us to renew the timber fillets as previously installed and we should find out the full scope of repairs in the coming days.On close inspection, we have advised the customer on a significant amount of re-pointing to be done and we are in the middle of raking out of the joints at the moment. Progress should be increased significantly in the next week or so with most of the messy work out of the way and then it is mostly all about Decorating until handover.Work continues for us at Habitat liverpool One this month. The programme of works sees us on site now until the handover of the project at the end of the month. With 3 large floors to decorate we will have a number of our dedicated commercial team working on this job right up until the end.We have been appointed to decorate the HSBC bank in Bicester, Oxfordshire, on behalf of a new customer. Our work will start at the beginning of next month with the project to last around 15 days until completion. 3 of our dedicated decorators for Banking, will be staying down in Bicester and travelling locally to and from the branch. The work consists of painting internally and externally and hanging of a number of Dixon Turner wide vinyls throughout different areas of the branch.
After alot of hardwork and many hours working on a tender to act as main contractorfor the re-decoration and building works to the Yorkshire building society in Bradford, we havebeen given the order confirmation and are due to receive the start date in the beginning ofthe month. We are likely to see work commence around the middle of this monthwith the contract to run for 4-5 weeks to completion.Work has started for us at the Turf Bookmakers in Ranleigh Street in Liverpool city centreon behalf of Timbertec International. The contract will run for approximately two weeksbefore handover to Timbertec. Very high spec, wide vinyl wallcoverings will be installed throughout thestore and we look forward to providing the customer with a high end DDS finish. After almost a year of returning tenders to one of the biggest shopfitters in Europe, we are very pleased to say thatwe have been given the decoration package for the new Habitat store in the very impressive Liverpool One shopping complexin Liverpool city centre. The project had a very short notice period prior to our first visit and it proved a challenge as we had to go in as soon as we received the order to spray the beams and ceiling deck, before any other trades arrived. Once all of the internal wallsand ceilings have been erected we will be back in to carry out the rest of the decorating. Habitat customers are sure to get a treat when they see the new store completed and we are really pleased to be a part of this project. Our first Macdonalds re-fit has kicked off this month. We have been asked to provide all of the decoration elements on behalf of a large UK shopfitter. The preparation that went into this workpre-contract, has been very demanding for our tradesmen appointed to work on these sites, but it was all necessary and we look forward to completing many of these stores throughout the course of this and next year.Following our string of successful Tesco Express projects, we have been asked to provide our services for a rollout ofCo-op store rebranding, throughout the UK. we have a dedicated team assigned to carry out this work andwe are very happy to have been given the opportunity to work in another of the countries well known major food stores. The work is due to run for the rest of the year and into 2010 with up to 3 projects running at the same time.
